Dries Mertens has surpassed Diego Maradona’s tally of 115 goals in a Napoli jersey and is now closing on Marek Hamsik’s record of 121.

He had been one goal behind Maradona’s total of 115, but in one night matched and surpassed it to reach 116.

Mertens came to the Stadio San Paolo from PSV Eindhoven for under €10m in the summer of 2013.
He was often second choice winger under Rafa Benitez, but his career was transformed by an injury crisis when Maurizio Sarri tried him out as a centre-forward.
‘Ciro’ now has 116 goals in 292 official games for Napoli, along with 69 assists.
