Napoli striker Dries Mertens revealed what went wrong with his new hairstyle and why his friends want a free TV with Belgium goals.

The forward has impressed so far at the 2018 World Cup, including a spectacular volley, and is preparing for the Round of 16 clash with Belgium on Monday.

“My friends bought a television, so I am thinking about that as motivation,” joked Mertens in a Press conference.

He was referring to an advertising campaign from electronics company Krefel offering Belgian customers a full refund on a new television if the team scores 16 goals during the tournament.

Mertens also hit the headlines for his new hairstyle and admits it didn’t entirely go to plan.

“I like to do something different for the World Cup, as it only comes along once every four years, so I have fun with my hair. I decided to bleach it this time, but I didn’t expect it to be this… yellow.”
