Dries Mertens believes new signings are still settling in and says it’s ‘difficult’ to compare the current squad with Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli side.

The Tuscan tactician came close to winning the 2017-18 Serie A title but the Belgian striker believes it’s hard to compare the current Napoli squad with Sarri’s team.

“It’s hard, newcomers are still settling in, it’s a pity [Victor] Osimhen is out, when some players are missing you can’t work the way you want," Mertens told Sky Sport.

“It’s hard, newcomers are still settling in, it’s a pity [Victor] Osimhen is out, when some players are missing you can’t work the way you want," Mertens told Sky Sport.

The Azzurri pulled off an away 1-1 draw at AZ Alkmaar in Europa League on Thursday but Napoli are not qualified for the last-32 stage yet.

“We are the table leaders and we need to continue and see where we can get to. We need to understand that we are a strong team, we need the desire to win every game.”
