Dries Mertens assures Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he will “play more regularly” for Napoli as the season wears on.
Since taking over from Maurizio Sarri, Ancelotti has largely dropped Mertens to the bench, preferring Arkadiusz Milik as a more traditional centre-forward.
“It’s quite simple. I came back late from the World Cup, I spoke to the Coach and he intends to play me more regularly in future,” Mertens told reporters while on international duty with Belgium.

“My role in the squad has not changed since the World Cup. We talked about the situation, Ancelotti likes the way I play and honestly I don’t think at this stage of the season that I am ready to play 90 minutes.
“I would’ve liked to play more in the tournament, but I am very happy with what we achieved together. The most important thing was to bring home a bronze medal.”
