Despite an uncertain summer, Alex Meret has started the season incredibly well with Napoli and now seems ready to sign a new contract.

The 25-year-old Italian shot stopper struggled for consistent minutes last season as Luciano Spalletti preferred to deploy David Ospina, leaving him benched for large parts of the campaign. Things looked even more shaky when Napoli spent the summer searching for a new goalkeeper like Keylor Navas and Kepa Arrizabalaga, suggesting that Meret would be on the way out.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Meret has started the season well with Napoli despite his recent difficulties, convincing the club and Spalletti of his qualities. The Partenopei’s failure to sign a top keeper gave him the chance to become the number one in the Campania capital and he hasn’t disappointed.

After convincing on the pitch lately, Meret feels confident and happy again with Napoli and is now seemingly ready to sign a new five-year contract with the club, which has been ready for months now.
