Gianluca Di Marzio details how super agent Jorge Mendes is continuing to push Manchester United to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave for Napoli.

The 37-year-old Portuguese star is seemingly desperate to compete in the Champions League this season, something he won’t find with the Red Devils, and so he’s been trying to find an escape route from the North West of England for a little while now.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a €90m+ deal for Ajax star Antony, and they could then decide to make a further investment of around €100m or move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The player’s agent made it clear that his client wants Champions League football as well, but the allure of the Premier League may prove too tough to ignore.

Napoli are open to a possible deal but only above the €100m mark, and they’d have to find a way to convince Osimhen.

Mendes is still working to try and find a way to bring Ronaldo to Naples, but it’s clear that Manchester United would need to contribute to most, if not all, his wages. Partenopei defender Mario Rui also made it clear that the squad would welcome the 37-year-old “with open arms.”

No negotiations are ongoing between the clubs and no official offer has been made yet, but things could really heat up in the last few days of the summer transfer window.

  1. So Napoli would lose a player that was a revelation for them in the past 2 years, to get a player that could play max 2-3 years, break their budget and make the whole team around himself!
