There have been rumours that Melo pushed to leave Istanbul after being threatened with a gun, but the Brazilian international vehemently denied those claims.

“Lies being printed is an incredible problem in Turkey, but I love the Turkish people, that city [Istanbul], that country. My wife was happy, and we have a lot of friends.

“I’ll go back to visit those people, the rest is all lies.”

Finally, the former Juventus midfielder told fans what to expect from fellow new signing Alex Telles, who has also arrived from Gala.

“He’s a player with a magical left foot. He’s young and has the right attitude. He wants to win and get into the national team. He’s a winner, and that’s a very good thing.”
