“Mancini gave me my Serie A debut. Every time I see him, I thank him for that moment,” Meggiorini told the Corriere di Verona newspaper.

“It was November 14 2004. I’d been an Inter for a year playing in the youth team and Mancini called me up for the trip to Cagliari.

“He put me on, it ended 3-3, and it’s a day that has remained in my heart.”

Despite playing for Inter, Meggiorini really made his mark against them, scoring three goals in nine meetings with the Nerazzurri.

“Mancini is giving this Inter side character and they are doing very well. However, so are we and Chievo have the right mentality now. We will try to win and, obviously, I’ll try to make Mancini unhappy with my goals.

“I feel it, I’ve got a goal in me just waiting for this opportunity.”
