A Cristiano Ronaldo brace from the spot and a Weston McKennie’s acrobatic volley gave the Old Lady a 3-0 win away at Barcelona allowing them to win the Group G of the Champions League.

It was the first time Ronaldo scored against Barcelona in a Champions League match. He also faced Lionel Messi for the first time since he left Real Madrid to join Juventus in summer 2018.

The Portuguese star was the best player on the pitch, not only for the goals he scored, but also for his commitment. Il Corriere dello Sport highlights his ball recovery inside Juventus’ penalty area to steal the ball from Leo Messi’s control minutes before the final whistle.

“We’ve never seen him tracking back as much as he did at the Camp Nou, what a great game,” writes the Rome-based paper that rates the Juventus star 8,5.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldo seemed: “Messi’s younger brother rather than two years older than the Argentine”.

“He is the best penalty-kick taker in history when under pressure,” the comment continues.

Ronaldo’s rating is 8, just as much as Alvaro Morata and Weston McKennie’s.

Despite the same rating, the American was the MVP of the game, according to La Gazzetta: “He was everywhere, with and without the ball. Not bad for someone who had never been tested at these levels.”
