It seems to be a 4-3-3 formation that Pioli has in mind, although he took great pains to shield the training sessions from view, using large structures and even sheets to block off any vantage points.

Sky Sport Italia suggest Jeison Murillo could be rested after returning from international duty in Colombia, instead using Chilean Medel in central defence alongside Joao Miranda.

It is not an unusual role for Medel, who plays there at international level, but at Inter he has almost always played in midfield.

This is Medel’s comeback game after a three-match ban for lashing out an elbow at Atalanta’s Jasmin Kurtic.

Inter (probable): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Miranda, Medel, Ansaldi; Brozovic, Kondogbia, Joao Mario; Candreva, Icardi, Perisic
