USA international Weston McKennie said it’s ‘a great honour to be the first American’ at Juventus and thinks he can help Andrea Pirlo in the ‘recovery of possession’ this season.

The 22-year-old central midfielder, capped 19 times by USA, was presented at a press conference and revealed his dream ‘has become reality’ after signing with the Old Lady.

“The idea of coming to play here, at a club with a great history, it excited me,” McKennie said at a press conference. “The club immediately supported my commitment to Black Lives Matter.

“There was no need to convince me to come to Juventus, because being here is a dream that has become reality.”

McKennie thinks he can help coach Andrea Pirlo, who has stressed the need to win possession back immediately after losing the ball.

“My strong point is the recovery of possession,” McKennie added. “I talked to Pirlo and he appreciates this feature.

“We are on the same wavelength as to my position on the pitch.”

The USA international is the first ever American at the Bianconeri and now he hopes to inspire young players from his homeland.

“It’s a great honour to be the first American player in the history of Juventus. Having the opportunity to wear this shirt, representing my country and bringing young Americans closer to football makes me proud.”

The former Schalke 04 midfielder looks forward to playing with and learning from Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Playing with Ronaldo, seeing how he moves and how he works will bring me great benefits.”
