Weston McKennie was sent out on loan to Leeds United last season and was on the exit list this summer, but with Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli suspended, Juventus seem ready to offer him a new contract.
The USMNT midfielder was not part of Max Allegri’s plans only a few months ago and failed to make an impression at Leeds, who were relegated from the Premier League and did not take up their option to buy him on a permanent basis.
He was also looking for a new club over the summer, but off the field issues have seen McKennie go from outcast to valuable member of the team.
So far this season, McKennie has eight competitive appearances for Juve, spending 527 minutes on the field.
Much of that has been spent on the right side of a 3-5-2 formation, but can also be in his preferred position in central midfield.
That now seems more likely, as Pogba is suspended for failing a doping test, while Fagioli is facing a seven-month ban for illegal betting.
McKennie is under contract with the Bianconeri until June 2025, but as things stand, he could try to earn a longer deal.
