Multiple reports claim Kylian Mbappé has rejected Real Madrid and will sign a new three-year contract at PSG for figures that make a mockery of financial fair play rules.
As the effects of the pandemic are still felt and Italian clubs speak of tightening their belts, lowering wages and becoming more sustainable, other sides seem totally immune from economic concerns.
According to multiple sources including L’Equipe, Marca, Sky Sport Italia and the New York Times, Mbappé has turned down the chance to join Real Madrid as a free agent this summer.
It’s believed he will receive a salary of €50m per year at Paris Saint-Germain, plus a signing-on bonus of at least €130m and retain 100 per cent of his image rights.
Tuttosport even go so far as to suggest the signing-on bonus is worth €300m.
Even more remarkable, the player will be given a say in the choice of coach – and he is pushing for Zinedine Zidane – director of sport and even the transfer strategy.
Reportedly a three-year contract that will be announced this evening ahead of PSG’s final game of the season, it is not so much a commitment to the club as a way of ensuring they do not lose him for free.
The striker is still only 23 years old and was signed from AS Monaco for €145m in the summer of 2018.
He scored 36 goals with 26 assists in 45 competitive matches so far this season, so will remain teammates with Italy internationals Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
