Mbappé: ‘I support Milan and I spoke to Liverpool twice’

PSG star Kylian Mbappé explains why he supports Milan and reveals he spoke to Liverpool before extending his contract with the Ligue 1 giants.

The France star has recently signed a contract extension with PSG until June 2025, snubbing an offer from Real Madrid.

However, the Merengues were not the only club he spoke to while his contract was expiring, as Liverpool also made their move to sign the 2018 France World Cup winner.

“I spoke to Liverpool because it’s my mum’s favourite club. I don’t why she supports the Reds, you should ask her,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Jokes aside, they are a great club. I had already met them five years ago when I was playing for Monaco. We briefly spoke this time, but in the end, the choice was between Real Madrid and PSG. Everyone knows that I wanted to go to Madrid last summer because I thought it was the right choice.”

A picture of Mbappé wearing a Milan shirt as a kid had become viral over the last few weeks, so Mbappé was asked his thoughts on the Rossoneri, who have just won the 19th Scudetto in their history.

“My bond with Milan is special. My nanny was Italian and I spent a lot of time with her family, they all supported Milan,” he revealed.

“Thanks to them, I watched many Milan games and I’ve become a fan. I used to say: if I ever play in Italy, it will only be at Milan. If I had said something different, they would have killed me…

“Jokes aside, I can only congratulate the Rossoneri, I have many French friends and Ibrahimovic, a legend that I really respect.”

France are one of the favourites to win the World Cup at the end of the year, while Italy have failed to qualify for the second successive time.

“Better for us, because Italy is a top team, but I was sad for my friends Marco Verratti and Gigio Donnarumma,” said Mbappé.

“It was tough for them because we were knocked out of the Champions League after their World Cup elimination. That’s what football is about. Italy will have a new generation of football and you will be back.”

Why did he reject Real Madrid’s offer to extend with PSG? Was it all about the money?

“Things have changed. I am French, I know I am important to my country, so I had to think well. It’s not only about football, but also about life,” the France star claimed.

“I want to live well in my country at the end of my career. I thank Real Madrid and their fans for their affection even though I wore that shirt only for a few weeks when I was playing in the youth teams at 14. Good luck with the Champions League Final.

“I haven’t talked about money with Florentino or Nasser Al Khelaifi. Only about football and titles to win. My mum and lawyers talk about money. Of course, I got money in the bank account and I take a look at it sometimes, but what matters to me is the pitch, winning trophies, being the best and being happy and right now, I am happy.”

Yes, please come to Milan when you’re 35!

  2. Kris

Mbappé ib Liverpool playing with Sané and Salah under Klopp would have been insane.

Mbappé in Italy will never happens.

  3. Manni

Maybe in the future he would play in Italy, but only IF italian football returns to a respectable position globally!

for him to state trophies is non sense really PSG will never be a full contender in Europe no matter how much money they spend, some clubs have a history and a habit of winning the Champs league over a period of time, Madrid, AC and pool / Bayern being the main ones when you look at over all history! he can say it wasnt about money but it obviously is! football has no soul left its all material gain these days…goodluck to him in the french league but its hardly a challenge really…I would imagine given his age, he will end up in madrid at some point IF! hes still at this level…

His entourage did well to milk the nuts out of P$G, that`s for sure.

  5. Rosario

Just another money grabber! I don’t blame him as its pretty much the norm these days! Support Milan, my backside. We certainly wouldn’t give him even ten million as a sign on fee! This farce will repeat itself in a few years when his contract is up!

  6. Gino

He’s speaking to an Italian newspaper what else would he say

  7. Rosario

This isn’t even the most fishy part of the story! They even pressured Emmanuel macarooon to go public and ask mbappe to stay! Wonder why…
