Kylian Mbappe congratulated Milan after their Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain and suggested the reaction to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s return was ‘a bit too much’.

The Rossoneri disappointed in their prior meeting with the Parisian giants last month, falling in a 3-0 loss to the French capital, but looked far more resilient in front of a packed Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Milan performed well and worked hard for a 2-1 win over PSG on Tuesday evening, snatching all three points after goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud, making Milan Skriniar’s opener just a consolation goal.

Speaking to TeleLombardia at the mixed zone of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza via MilanNews, Mbappe first discussed what went wrong for PSG.

“The problem is us, when we don’t win the problem is always us, we won’t look for the problem elsewhere. We didn’t manage to win, Milan had confidence and congratulations to them.”

He was asked what the Ligue 1 side expected in their trip to San Siro.

“We were not hoping for anything different from them. We just hoped to come here and win, it wasn’t done.

“We wanted to keep first place in the group, now we are second. But there’s a home game against Newcastle that we have to win and then we’ll see what happens.”

Finally, Mbappe discussed the San Siro crowd and the reception given to Donnarumma, who was loudly jeered by the majority of home fans.

“There was a lot of noise and they gave Gigio quite a difficult reception. I think it was a bit too much, but there you go, that’s football nowadays.

“The fans do what they want, we can’t know what they feel inside. We protected Gigio as much as we could, and we feel sorry for him this evening.”
