“I thank those who are here and apologise if I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to those who left,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“The season begins tomorrow with a very important match. Now I’d like to talk more about Roma than the transfer market, as I want my players to remain concentrated.
“Roma have done extraordinary things to strengthen their midfield. They were already a great team last season and did so well under Eusebio Di Francesco, so we have to perfect against them to hope for a result.
“I believe in hard work and tactical organisation. I gave the club some indications on which players to sign and how many we needed, but the markets are still open elsewhere and we will try to whittle down the squad.
“In my career, when given the right number of players, I’ve always managed to get 110 per cent out of my players. If the lads are ready to work hard, we can do great things together.
“Fitness is an essential condition for me and in order to choose a starting XI, I must have guarantees on their fitness. We’ve got to stop Roma playing their game and do our best going forward.”
There had been calls for the opening Serie A weekend to be postponed in the wake of the Ponte Morandi collapse in Genoa, but only Sampdoria-Fiorentina and Milan-Genoa were rescheduled.
As a former Samp Coach, Mazzarri crossed that bridge many times.
