Mazzarri says his side mustn’t underestimate the Neroverdi.

“It’s one of those games that could be described as a ‘trap’ game. their ranking is not improving, but they play football and last Sunday they didn’t deserve to lose,” said Mazzarri in his press conference.

“Sometimes they commit a little naivety in their approach, but they can put anyone in difficulty. We must see the danger and be careful in defence, as we have done in recent games.”

Midfielder Daniele Baselli has returned from injury, but Mazzarri isn’t sure if he will play.

“He’s been called up, but he’s only just come back. We will have to evaluate his playing time. After the game against Sassuolo we have Atalanta and then the Coppa Italia, so everyone is needed. Having him back is important.”

Alex Berenguer is having a breakout season, but Mazzarri isn’t getting carried away.

“He worked on his physique and calmness in front of goal. He can become a top player, but I don’t like to talk too early, we still have 19 games plus the cup.

“He must also find consistency in his performances. I like him because even when he’s not in the best shape, he works for the team.”

Torino sit on the same amount of points as they had at this stage last season, so have they improved under Mazzarri?

“We are a real group and the boys believe in the coach. Serie A this season is more difficult in relation to last, reaching the same points tally this year is worth more.

“Teams have improved, even the smaller sides have more courage.”
