Walter Mazzarri is reportedly considering a proposal worth €2m per season to take over at Cagliari after Leonardo Semplici was sacked.

The Sardinians made the change this morning, after starting the season with a 2-2 draw against Spezia, 4-1 loss to Milan and 3-2 home defeat to Genoa.

Sunday’s result was particularly galling, because they had been 2-0 up, conceding three goals in under 20 minutes.

Official: Cagliari sack Semplici

Mazzarri quickly emerged as first choice for the club President Tommaso Giulini, and Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà maintains they have offered him a new contract worth €2m per season.

That’s a huge salary for a club that is battling against relegation.

It’s reported Mazzarri is taking time to consider the proposition, but he is absolutely the favourite ahead of other options, such as Beppe Iachini and Diego Lopez.

Mazzarri turns 60 next month and has been out of work since he was fired by Torino in February 2020.

Among his previous roles were Watford, Inter, Napoli, Sampdoria, Reggina and Livorno.

  1. They should have invested in transfers rather than just keep firing coaches!

Cagliari want to do wonders with peanuts… you cannot fool everyone, just look at Nainggolan.
