Walter Mazzarri was impressed with Inter’s win over Real Madrid on penalties. “Yann M’Vila was better than expected.”
Mauro Icardi’s spot-kick cancelled out a Gareth Bale wonder strike in California last night, so the Guinness International Champions Cup tie was decided in a shoot-out.
“For the first 15 minutes we were a little static and our midfield was brand new, but strangely we started playing well after conceding the goal and got better as the game went on,” said the Coach.
“I warned the younger players that Real Madrid always want to win and give it personality, even in a friendly tournament. These are two great clubs and that means always wanting the victory.
“M’Vila came on well in the second half. His fitness levels need to improve, but he was better than expected.
“Aside from the penalties, Icardi put in a good performance. He’s on the right track, though everyone has to improve as the summer goes on.”
Mazzarri was asked what his targets were for this season, his second on the Inter bench.
“We don’t have a precise objective, we just need to take Inter back where they belong. Our mentality is to never settle and that was on show here.”
