Walter Mazzarri is reportedly close to being appointed Morocco coach after talks with the the country’s Football Federation went well.

The 60-year-old Italian coach is currently out of work after leaving Cagliari in May, having spent one season with the Sardinian club. An experienced tactician, Mazzarri usually takes a break in between jobs, but that could change as the 2022 World Cup approaches.

According to reports from Al Araby, Mazzarri had a positive meeting with the Moroccan Football Federation in recent days and is now on the verge of being appointed head coach of their national team.

The 60-year-old has reportedly landed in Rabat, Morocco’s capital, to meet directly with Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, and his appointment could be announced this week.

Morocco have qualified for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and they’ve been drawn into Group F, which also contains Belgium, Canada and Croatia.
