Walter Mazzarri denies that he insulted Cagliari players and President Tommaso Giulini and is ready to take legal action following a report claiming he had called his former players worms.

L’Unione Sarda reported on Wednesday that Cagliari had sacked Mazzarri with just cause as he insulted players and president Tommaso Giulini after a 2-1 loss at home against Hellas Verona.

Report: Mazzarri fired by Cagliari after calling players ‘worms’

“I was surprised to read several reports claiming that I had used words that don’t belong to me,” Mazzarri said in an official statement published by the Italian agency ANSA.

“Those reports harm my image, which I’ve built during a 20-year career in Italy and abroad.

“I deny the statements on the players attributed to me. I respect this group of players and I may take action in the appropriate fora towards those responsible.”
