Mazzarri: ‘Bayern the highest quality’

Walter Mazzarri is content with Napoli's stalemate against Bayern Munich, who are “a team of the highest quality.”

The Germans had not even conceded a goal since August 7 before Holger Badstuber turned Christian Maggio's cross into his own net in this 1-1 draw.

“We were facing a fantastic team of the highest quality, then a few incidents didn't go our way, so overall the draw is the right result,” said the Coach.

“When Bayern have the ball, they can do anything, while their physical strength means they can put pressure on us and force us to lose possession cheaply.

“In the last 10 games they have scored 25 goals and conceded just one, so that says a lot about the performance of my team.”

The San Paolo also witnessed controversy, as Bastian Schweinsteiger's handling offence in the area was not spotted, but Paolo Cannavaro did give away a penalty for arguably a less clear incident.

That Mario Gomez spot-kick was saved by Morgan De Sanctis.

“There was a moment when Marek Hamsik could've scored with a header, but Schweinsteiger got his arm in the way,” continued Mazzarri.

“We had prepared an option with the four-man defence, but did not use it, as we would've been out-numbered on the counter with the way Bayern can pass.

“Hugo Campagnaro and Salvatore Aronica took it in turns to go out and catch their trequartista, so we were more solid that way.”
