Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri says he’d be happy with the possible arrival of Palermo’s Federico Balzaretti.

The Italian international, who has less than a year left on his contract, is of transfer interest to Napoli, Roma and Lazio.

“From what I hear, the player is about to make a decision,” Mazzarri noted. “It seems that Napoli are ready to take him and I’d be happy if he chose us.

“We have improved our squad this summer with some important players and having a big squad will be a stimulus for everyone – it means everyone will have to earn their place in the team.”

Napoli have made Palermo the best offer – of around €5m – for the left-back, while the capital clubs have yet to match their bid.

Mazzarri was also asked about the possibility of signing a new striker as cover for Edinson Cavani. “I think the four attackers we have will be enough, but we’ll see over the next month.”
