Napoli Coach Walter Mazzarri believes “it’s as if we won 4-0” in their stalemate with Lazio this evening.

“In the locker room I told the lads it was as if we had won 4-0. We laid siege to them and there was probably a perfectly valid goal disallowed that would’ve given us the chance to play with a different spirit,” he said of the 0-0 result.

“Federico Marchetti is a great goalkeeper, but I think tonight he surpassed himself. Football is illogical and not an exact science. It was destiny that the ball refused to go in. We hope to win future games that aren’t played at quite the same level.

“If the ball doesn’t go in, then it doesn’t go in. I look at performances rather than just goals.

“We were taking on the Serie A joint leaders and held out very well. This is a further boost to our confidence.”

Napoli were undoubtedly distracted by the upcoming Champions League clash with Manchester City.

“Now we think about Tuesday. It won’t be at all easy, as City are a team of phenomenons,” continued Mazzarri.

“Roberto Mancini is right when he says they have no reason to envy Barcelona or Real Madrid. We’ll try to the bitter end to go as far as possible.”
