Borja Mayoral sent a message to Roma coach Jose Mourinho after his move to Getafe. ‘I feel angry, as I think I deserved to play more.’
The 24-year-old striker had been 18 months into a two-year loan from Real Madrid with option to buy for €20m.
However, he fell rapidly down the pecking order when Mourinho took over at the Stadio Olimpico, managing only 13 competitive appearances, almost all of them as a substitute.
He scored two goals and provided one assist in his 332 minutes on the pitch this season.
“I arrive with a great deal of enthusiasm after several months of not playing, but I also feel angry, because I think I deserved to play more minutes,” said Mayoral at his Getafe presentation press conference.
“I have a lot of pent-up energy after the season I had at Roma and think I can prove the striker that I really am. Playing for Spain is an objective and a dream that I want to make come true.”
Getafe took over the loan for six months and Roma have already made clear they will not activate the €20m option to buy in June 2022.
At that point, Mayoral will therefore return to Real Madrid.
