Borja Mayoral noted that things “haven’t been easy” following his loan move from Roma to Getafe.

The 24-year-old Spanish forward, alongside Giallorossi teammate Gonzalo Villar, left the Italian capital to join Getafe, with the official announcement being made yesterday. The pair have joined the Spanish side on a six-month loan deal with buy options attached.

Writing in a post on his Instagram page, Mayoral bid farewell to the Roma fans and touched on his emotions following the move.

“Roma! It’s been a real pleasure being here, living here and playing in this shirt. Thank you for this year and a half full of emotions… I’m sorry for scoring so many goals last season and not being able to experience those emotions with all of you here at the stadium, because the best part of this club is you.

“The last few months, as you can well imagine, haven’t been easy for me, but I keep all the good and beautiful things I have experienced. In this year and a half I’ve learned a lot and I’ve grown in a league like Serie A.

“To be honest I never imagined it would end like this, but I leave with the knowledge that I’ve given everything and that I’ve been worthy of this great club. Bye Roma, bye Romanisti.”

The 24-year-old Mayoral, whose contract expires with Roma at the end of this season, made 56 appearances across all competitions for the Giallorossi since his arrival in October 2020. In that time, he has scored 18 goals and provided eight assists.

The Spanish forward hardly featured under coach Jose Mourinho this season, making only five Serie A appearances, playing 93 minutes in total, and so a departure this month was inevitable.
