Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is set to officially call on Inter and Milan to continue playing football in stadiums within the city as the two teams continue to explore options away from their current home in San Siro.
On Friday, the Milan city council unanimously approved a motion which will require representatives from the two clubs to hold a meeting with the mayor on the subject of relocation.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, the mayor will do everything in his power to ensure that both Milan and Inter play their football in stadiums within the city of Milan.
Recent reports suggest that Inter have been moving forwards with plans for a new development in the region of Rozzano, almost 10km outside of Milan.
For many months, Sala has argued that it would be a mistake for either club to permanently move into suburbs outside of the city.
Sala reiterated those thoughts during a press conference immediately after Friday’s ruling, telling reporters: “At this point, we will call the teams. I continue with my opinion that it is a mistake to leave Milan. I don’t doubt that Inter could be at an advanced stage with their plans, but I don’t know anything about it. Nobody came to me to present the Rozzano project.”
