The mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella says there has been ‘tangible progress’ in Fiorentina’s stadium project.

The Viola are planning to build a new 40,000-seater arena in the city, but the project has been caught up in bureaucracy.

“We’ve made tangible progress,” Nardella assured as he spoke to Gr Parlamento.

“After the new law on stadiums, we’ve started the procedure. The city council has declared that the construction of the stadium is in the public interest.

“Fiorentina’s questions have been answered with some requirements, and we’ve moved toward the final realisation of the project.

“We’re already 30 per cent there. By February or March, Fiorentina will present the final project, and in 2016, if all goes well, the first work on the ground can begin.”

The Viola have gone top of the League after last night’s win at San Siro, crushing Inter 4-1, and Nardella praises the club’s owners, the Della Valle family.

“I’m very happy. I sing along with the fans in my city. Now we’re ready to be hold on to that position. It won’t be easy, but Fiorentina have shown the humility to be able to do well.

“The Della Valle’s have moved forward, never giving up, even in the face of some criticism from Fiorentina fans, who are historically hard to please.

“They’ve built an atmosphere of confidence year-on-year, and were able to overcome difficult and delicate spells in which the expected results did not arrive.

“You have to work for the long-term, not the short-term, that’s the attitude of the Della Valle’s, and I’ve always admired it.”
