Parma Mayor Federico Pizzarotti declared current club President Giampietro Manenti “doesn’t have a Euro to his name.”
The situation is spiralling out of control, as the team refused to play their last two Serie A matches against Udinese and Genoa.
“The Lega Serie A has resources and has to help, otherwise we won’t go forward,” Pizzarotti told Sky Sport Italia.
“We need a solution that is agreed between the FIGC and Lega, who must take their share of the responsibility for allowing this to happen. I can’t wait to meet with Damiano Tommasi and the Players’ Association on Tuesday to find a solution that we can take to the authorities.”
The Mayor met with President Manenti on Friday, but emerged stating he was “not credible” and had no clear plan to save the club.
Now it’s reported Manenti’s car has been confiscated for €1,900 of unpaid fines and there are big question marks over his company in Slovenia.
“Manenti did not tell us where the money would be coming from. We asked for clarity, but he did not provide any.
“Money itself isn’t enough, we want to know where it comes from. There are a series of issues around this that tell us Manenti hasn’t got a Euro to his name in Italy.
“I think there needs to be some very strict investigation around this issue and the rules have to be rewritten. We cannot allow football clubs to somehow ‘launder’ money that isn’t of clear origin.
“Manenti is a slippery character who many times has taken back promises he made a few minutes earlier. On the basis of what we know, we’ve been taken for a ride.
“Now we have to work on the future and just reaching the end of this season. We asked Manenti to take the books in to the tribunal for administration, but he told us all to relax.”
