The 33-year-old was friends and teammates with Icardi at Sampdoria, but they had a bitter falling out when Wanda left him to marry Icardi.

Reports have repeatedly indicated that the reason Icardi has been snubbed by the Argentina national team is because the senior players are loyal to Lopez, which was fuelled by a recent picture published in the Press with Lopez together with Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano.

Lopez strongly refuted these claims and accused his ex-wife of publishing the pictures to create controversy.

"There's a reason why he is not called," the Torino striker told Tyc Sports. "The world of football is jealous when a player has a great media exposure off the pitch. The sport has rules and when you make a mistake, you pay.

"In life it is the same. I would be pleased to have a private chat with him, but I have never been allowed: they always put him in the midst of the children.

"I rarely talk about it and this goes against me. But this time, I have to come out to clarify the situation, because my friends have been hurt.

"The only people that had that picture were me and her (Wanda Icardi). No one else. It was all done in bad faith. It has been more than 10 years since I spoke to Messi or Mascherano."
