Antonio Pulvirenti has confirmed that an original pre-contract agreement over the player’s January transfer to San Siro did exist with Milan. However, speaking to news agency ANSA, the Elefanti President has also stated that it is now no longer valid and that the player will be permitted to talk to other clubs about a transfer out of the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

“There was an agreement with Milan, but that has now expired and so we are now free to look elsewhere. You must understand that anything can happen now.

“We will not wait until the final day though, Maxi has offers from other clubs.”

The latest reports place the forward with a surprise switch to rivals Palermo, whilst the likes of Fiorentina, Wolfsburg and Fulham are all also thought to be tracking the 27-year-old.

Pulvirenti also briefly commented on Mariano Andujar’s equally imminent departure from the club, after his row with sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco in December led to his exile from the squad.

“For some time he was not happy, he believed that Catania was not a place for a player of his value.

“We only want players who believe in playing for our shirt.”
