Sergio Gasparin has reaffirmed that Maxi Lopez wants to leave Catania this summer and intimated that it may affect his pre-season.

The Argentine striker spent the last six months of last season on loan at Milan, but the Rossoneri decided against signing him on a permanent basis, so for now he is back on the books with the Elefanti.

However, the player is known to be angling for a move elsewhere and has regularly talked up links to Napoli.

Lopez has been called up to Catania’s pre-season training camp, but sporting director Gasparin has admitted that his presence may be disruptive and therefore is not confirmed as yet.

“After Milan, he has expressed his intention not to return to Catania,” confirmed the club’s new ds to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is currently in the 32 called for the withdrawal under [new Coach Rolando] Maran, but depending on different things we will make a decision.

“Each player at Catania must be committed to the shirt. Next week we will evaluate all situations relating to the player.

“It is clear that we are aiming for the most advantageous economic situation, to try to make as much as possible.”
