Former Juventus and Napoli midfielder Massimo Mauro praised Milan’s management for the way they dealt with Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 23-year-old Italian goalkeeper left the Rossoneri on a free transfer last summer, ending an eight year association with the club. He joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain, signing a five-year contract. His departure was not accepted well by the Milan fans, who felt that he was too motivated by financial gains.

Speaking to Radio 24, Mauro discussed the work of Milan’s management and how they handled the Donnarumma negotiations.

“The good work of the club deserves merit. How Maldini and the club behaved with Donnarumma’s contract, they made a point, the club made a decision on the present and the future, saying it clearly.”

Milan replaced Donnarumma with French shot stopper Mike Maignan, picking him up from Lille in a deal worth around €15m, which seems like a bargain in hindsight. The 26-year-old has done well to replace the Euro 2020 winner, and it’s a sign of good management by the Rossoneri.

Things have been a little difficult for Donnarumma in Paris following his move; he’s been forced to share his starting spot with Keylor Navas and he’s made a number of high-profile errors.

  1. I didn’t like the way Gigi left Milan. They invested so much into him. And to not let them recoup some of that was wrong. I feel his agent kept trying to push him to leave Milan to receive a huge commission was his only motivation. Not the players best interest. I am glad Milan found a good keeper. And I wish Gigi the best. But he burned bridges in leaving.

  2. @usman problem is nobody would do that deal, specially considering Gigio’s earn 3x what Mike earns. And Mike is a way better with the feet and in crosses. I suffered a lot when Donnarumma was at Milan in crosses

  3. Everybody knew it was a bad move except Dollaruma and his agent. let him enjoy the bench at PSG.

  4. Season is almost over and we’re still hearing these news. Maybe next season it will be one article a month instead one per week on this guy.

  5. Dumb-aruma deserved everything that came to him. He could have been the leader of new Milan. One day he will wish he never left, as if the money he is making now vs what he was making at AC Milan makes a difference. Not to mention we kept his Dumb-aruma brother in the team because of him. I really now don’t care about his future and have completely lost my respect for him
