“It hurts to see this situation between the club and the fans,” Mauri admitted to Sky.

“I hope it’ll be resolved soon, and something can be done to bring the fans back together with the team to get out of this period together.

“I didn’t follow the Bielsa affair much, I was on holiday. I don’t know about the actual agreements with the club, but it was certainly a particular situation which didn’t go well for Lazio.

“Will I meet with President Claudio Lotito? I haven’t met him, you should ask him if he wants to meet me, I’d do it even now.

“I have an excellent relationship with the President but this year they decided to turn the page. I think it’s impossible to return to Lazio as a player.

“Lotito spoke about a different role, but he never defined the job though I was promised I could work in the youth sector or be a director.

“Meanwhile I’m not going to retire now, at least for year.”
