Lazio and Italy midfielder Stefano Mauri will be back on February 2 after his nine-month ban was reduced on appeal.

At first it seemed as if the TNAS tribunal would delay its verdict, but Mauri has now been told his ban is cut from the original nine months to six.

This means he will be available for selection again from February 2, as the ban started on August 2 2013.

Mauri had been suspended for failing to alert the authorities to a potential fix in Lazio-Genoa and Lecce-Lazio in May 2011.

He always denied any guilt, whereas the Disciplinary Commission lodged its own appeal to have the ban increased to several years with the far more serious charge of sporting fraud.

It remains to be seen whether Mauri will be considered for the World Cup squad, as he had been an Italy regular before the controversy.
