Juventus look to have chosen Alessandro Matri to replace Sebastian Giovinco rather than Daniel Osvaldo.

Giovinco is set to terminate his contract by mutual consent tomorrow so that he can join Toronto FC now instead of in July.

Coach Max Allegri confirmed in today’s Press conference that the short-list was down to just two names.

“Tomorrow it is 99 per cent sure that one out of Matri or Osvaldo will arrive.”

It’s reported Osvaldo was the first choice, but Inter’s insistence on receiving €500,000 for the five-month loan scuppered the deal.

Instead, Sky Sport Italia, Sport Mediaset and others are all reporting that Matri will make his return to Juventus.

Currently owned by Milan, he spent the last six months on loan at Genoa.

It is a comeback because Matri wore the Juve jersey from January 2011 to August 2013.

He was tempted away from Turin by Allegri, who at the time was on the Milan bench and paid €11m for him.
