Nemanja Matic has featured consistently under Jose Mourinho this season and he’s not far away from triggering his automatic contract renewal clause with Roma.
The 34-year-old Serbian midfielder joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer in the summer after his contract expired with Manchester United. Matic was keen to work with Mourinho again after their experiences together at Chelsea and the Red Devils, and he’s taken part in all of their seven opening Serie A matches this season.
As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Matic’s contract is due to expire next year but includes an automatic one-year renewal clause, triggered if he appears in 19 of this season’s 38 Serie A matches.
He’s already featured seven times in the league and with 12 games remaining between now and the World Cup break in December, this clause could already be triggered ahead of the tournament in Qatar.
The 34-year-old’s salary would not be confirmed until the end of the season, however, as it depends on if the team qualify for the Champions League or the other European competitions.
