Nemanja Matic has officially signed a one-year contract with Roma after leaving Manchester United. ‘Jose Mourinho made the decision to come here very straightforward.’

The midfielder penned a one-year contract until June 30, 2023 and is a free agent after he was released by Manchester United.

He will wear the Number 21 jersey at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am pleased and honoured to be joining this club and I cannot wait to start the new season with my teammates,” Matic told the official Roma website.

“Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and a coach, Jose Mourinho, who is well known to everyone – making the decision to come here very straightforward.

“I hope that by working together we are able to achieve some great things.”

This is the third time that Matic and Mourinho have worked together after Chelsea and Manchester United.

“Nemanja brings with him to Roma not just a lot of quality on the pitch, but the vast experience he has gained from so many seasons in the Premier League and a focus and mentality that has consistently set him apart throughout his career,” said Tiago Pinto, the club’s General Manager.

“The enthusiasm he showed at the prospect of joining our project was hugely encouraging and I am sure that will serve as a starting point for a very productive journey for all of us.”

As always, Roma used the transfer announcement to also amplify the message seeking missing children around the world, which has proved successful in the past in reuniting kids with their families.
