Former Azzurri defender Marco Materazzi believes Manchester United's new signing Matteo Darmian is 'the best full-back in Italy'.

The 25-year-old completed a move from Torino to join the Red Devils, and was praised by veteran Materazzi, who is currently coaching Indian Super League club Chennaiyin.

"Darmian plays very well,” he said, in an interview with Goal.com. “In the World Cup, he was maybe not the best player but more or less did a good job.

"Darmian plays very well,” he said, in an interview with Goal.com. “In the World Cup, he was maybe not the best player but more or less did a good job.

"He has a big opportunity with Manchester United to grow because he's a good player, he's playing for the national team and now for Manchester [United]. I think he's the best wing-back in Italy."

Materazzi also had some time to discuss his own former Coach, Roberto Mancini, who will be leading Inter next year after picking up mid-season from Walter Mazzarri last November.

"It's a very good time for Inter because Mancini wants and is getting his players but I think he signed in the middle of the last season because he has a guarantee for this year to get back to winning.

"Out of three, four, five, six new players maybe one or two cannot play well but it's normal. This is football."
