The Croatia international struggled to make an impact in the first half of 2019-20, but after Christmas the 26-year-old convinced everyone at Milanello.

The Eintracht Frankfurt loanee eventually scored a brace against Udinese on January 19 and added another nine in the next 17 Serie A games.

He scored during the 1-1 draw with Juventus in the Coppa Italia as well, to take his total tally to 12 goals in 30 games for the Diavolo.

Milan signed a two-year loan deal with Eintracht Frankfurt, as Andrè Silva went in the opposite direction, but Massara said the club currently works to make the move permanent.

“We are evaluating the possibility of immediately bringing him on a permanent deal,” Massara said at a press conference. “We hope the conditions are in place to do so.

“We are very happy with his performances. In the second half, he was extraordinary. We hope to sign him on a permanent basis.”
