“It’s a tough job for anyone to take over, but having worked alongside Walter Sabatini allows me to be well-prepared,” Massara told Sky Sport Italia.
“Representing a club like Roma is a responsibility I am proud to shoulder.”
His first real task as director of sport is to negotiate a new deal for Dutch midfielder Strootman, who has attracted interest from the Premier League after recovering from a serious knee injury.
“We helped Strootman recover from his injury and suffered with him, so now we want to enjoy him for many years. We are moving forward to renew the contract and there won’t be any problems.
“In January we’ll evaluate the transfer market with the Coach. We have to take into account the Africa Cup of Nations and Alessandro Florenzi’s injury.
“It’s good that we have Antonio Rudiger back, while Mario Rui and Nura are also on the road to recovery. We’ll have time to evaluate everything.”
