Milan director Frederic Massara insists they are unlikely to bring in any January reinforcements, as they trust the current squad, but leaves the door open for ‘opportunities’ like Nicolò Zaniolo from Roma.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 GMT.

Serie A Liveblog: Lazio vs. Milan

The Rossoneri are in dire need of a boost after back-to-back 2-2 Serie A draws, crashing out of the Coppa Italia to 10-man Torino and losing the Supercoppa Italiana 3-0 to Inter.

Theo Hernandez was a late addition to the absentee list, along with Mike Maignan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fode Ballo-Toure and Alessandro Florenzi.

“The Supercoppa was a nasty defeat, but we have already forgotten it. Every time this team had difficulties, it was able to relaunch in vigorous fashion and we hope to do the same tonight. It’s a good test against a strong Lazio side,” Massara told DAZN.

Inevitably, the Milan transfer chief was asked about the growing stories that they are leading the race for Roma outcast Zaniolo, offering a loan deal with option to buy turning into an obligation if they qualify for the Champions League.

“We are concentrated on the game and our season. The transfer market is open, even if we already said that there are no particular needs, and we continue to maintain that. We’ll see if there are any opportunities from now to the end of the window, but I consider that very difficult.

“We are absolutely convinced we have a strong squad, a great coach and are capable of competing at the highest level, which we intend to do to the end. We are recovering players from injury and expect a fine end to the season.”

Considering Milan are playing Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, it may well be a good opportunity to meet with Roma directors or Zaniolo’s entourage.
