Marusic: ‘Roma didn’t play well, Lazio denied penalty’

Adam Marusic insists Roma ‘did not play that well’ in a 3-0 win and Lazio should’ve had a penalty, as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ‘probably has a broken nose.’

The Aquile were a goal down within the opening minute, capitulating 3-0 to a Tammy Abraham brace and Lorenzo Pellegrini free kick.

“It’s really disappointing, everything changed after the opening goal, they just started with more determination,” full-back Marusic told Lazio Style Radio.

Serie A Highlights: Roma 3-0 Lazio

“When you are 3-0 down at the break, it’s hard to come back from that. We talked during the week about this, we expected Roma to come out fighting and were meant to do the same. We didn’t and were heavily penalised, so we can only apologise to the fans.

“We know how much it means to them. I don’t even think Roma played that well, as we tried to get back into it in the second half, but the goals coming so early made it difficult to get back into the game psychologically.”

Lazio also had penalty appeals for an incident just 11 minutes in, when it was still 1-0 to Roma, when Roger Ibanez caught Milinkovic-Savic in the nose.

“He got an elbow in the face, he probably has a broken nose. The referee said there was contact, but he still didn’t blow the whistle.”
