Martusciello: ‘Forwards rewarded’

Empoli Coach Giovanni Martusciello says the 4-0 win over Pescara was a just reward for his toiling attacking players.

Prior to the thrashing of the Delfini on Sunday, the Azzurri had scored a paltry two goals in their opening 11 matches of the season, failing to find the net on 10 of those occasions.

However, two goals from Massimo Maccarone and one each for Manuel Pucciarelli and Riccardo Saponara brought an eight-game goal drought to an end with a bang.

“It was an important success, which will make us grow,” Martusciello admitted after seeing his side climb out of the relegation zone at Stadio Adriatico.

“Today, the boys put in the same intensity as the match with Roma and we unblocked our attack.

“The attackers were rewarded.”
