Fiorentina defender Lucas Martinez Quarta has broken his silence after the painful Conference League Final defeat to Olympiacos. ‘I am convinced that sooner or later, it will arrive.’

The Viola were the favourites going into the showdown in Athens, especially after losing the same Final a year earlier to West Ham United.

However, they capitulated in the final minutes of extra time and suffered a second consecutive defeat in the UEFA tournament.

The Fiorentina players have been largely silent since the upset and started to break through on social media today.

“Now that 3 days have passed, it still hurts so much and what I say here will make no difference,” wrote Martinez Quarta on Instagram.

“But it is the moment to show my face, take our share of the responsibility, get back on our feet and finish the season tomorrow in the best possible way.

“You cannot imagine how much we dreamed of and cared about bringing this trophy to Florence, and how much it hurt not to achieve that.

“Imagining the joy of all the people, the whole city, the whole Viola population: seeing the images of the Stadio Franchi packed, the Viola Park, all the fans who came to Athens to support us, it hurts even more.

“I can only thank all of you and the moment will come to get back on our feet, once again, ALL TOGETHER. I am convinced that sooner or later, it will arrive.”

Fiorentina season is not over yet

Fiorentina still have one more Serie A match to play this season, as on Sunday they will face Atalanta in Bergamo, although the result is largely irrelevant.

They will finish ninth in the table and Atalanta can end up either fourth or third.

The Viola have qualified for the Conference League again next season and La Dea will participate in the Champions League.
