The Nerazzurri forward helped Belgium bounce back from the 2-1 defeat to England last weekend and Martinez praised the former Manchester United forward.

“It was not easy to come and play here,” Martinez told RTBF. “The pitch wasn’t good, but I’m not looking for excuses and it’s true that our performance wasn’t perfect.

“We still had a good reaction after England. I’m very proud of Romelu Lukaku and everyone can be.

“He had an incredible match and was impressive in several aspects. The captain’s armband probably gave him another dimension.”

The 27-year-old has scored three times in three Serie A games so far this term and highlights Inter are targeting the title.

“The target is to win the Scudetto,” Lukaku told RBTF. “We want to become Italian champions.”

Inter play Milan at San Siro this weekend, in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season.
