After terminating his contract with Inter by mutual consent, Olympique Marseille confirm Alexis Sanchez will arrive tonight to sign on as a free agent.

The Chile international was held to the Nerazzurri until June 2023, but the two parties preferred to split up a year early, even if that meant Inter handing over a reported €5m in severance pay.

Olympique Marseille are ready to welcome him now with a medical planned for tomorrow morning.

Their director of communications Jacques Cardoze confirmed with a tweet that the ‘new astronaut’ represented by a Chilean flag was expected to land at 20.50 local time.

It is reported to be a one-year contract with an option to extend to June 2024.

This should be worth circa €2.5m per season, a massive pay cut from the €7m salary Inter had inherited from his Manchester United deal.

Although he was by no means first choice, Alexis Sanchez still contributed nine goals and five assists in 39 competitive games for Inter last season.

Those included decisive strikes in the Final of the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.
