Marquinhos believes the Juventus training centre is ‘perfect’ for Brazil to prepare for Qatar 2022 and praises Old Lady’s defenders Bremer, Danilo and Alex Sandro.

The Seleçao, one of the leading candidates to win the World Cup in Qatar, is preparing at Continassa, using Juventus’ training facilities until November 20, when the South Americans will fly to Qatar.

“We feel well here, it was exactly what the staff was looking for in terms of structures,” Marquinhos said at a press conference today.

“There is everything to work at our best and prepare for the World Cup, that’s why we came here. What we did in the previous games can suggest that we are the favourite, but we’ve already seen that this is a difficult tournament.

“We must only focus on work because if we think we are the best, we won’t go far,” the ex-Roma defender continued.

“It’s important to have many players, everyone can make a difference here. I had a slight issue a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to spend some days recovering and resume training slowly; today I completed the full session with the team.”

Italy have not qualified for the World Cup for the second time in a row and Marquinhos admitted the disappointment for his teammates Gigio Donnarumma and Marco Verratti was evident when they returned from international duty in March after a 1-0 loss to North Macedonia.

“I am sorry for Italy, I have friends who wanted to be here and I felt their sadness when my PSG teammates returned [from international duty]. It’s unexpected not to see the European champions at the World Cup. It shows how European football is difficult, I am sorry, but we must focus on ourselves.”

The PSG star will share the dressing room in Qatar with Juventus defenders Danilo, Alex Sandro and Gleison Bremer, the only three Serie A representatives in the team.

“They are important in the national team, Bremer has just arrived but has proved to be an excellent defender. Danilo and Alex Sandro have great experience and are important to us.”
