Milan beat Parma 3-1 yesterday, so a victory is needed to retain the 11-point lead at the top of the table.

“We must look at our opponents not for their position, but their determination and focus. This can be a fundamental match for Cagliari in terms of Serie A safety, so they will give everything,” the director told DAZN.

In his press conference yesterday, Conte said that he had ‘everything to lose’ when taking the ‘ultimate challenge’ of the Inter job.

“Conte is a great professional, he loves a challenge and this certainly was a challenge, coming to an historically important club that had some daily issues to deal with.

“Conte has fully passed the test, he is a very positive person, proud and ambitious, and a coach who can certainly be considered a winner.”

Although Inter are running away with the Scudetto, there remains criticism and debate around how ‘beautiful’ their football is, leading Conte to joke they would go to a salon next season.

“Our salon is the Pinetina training ground, where the team has everything it needs to prepare, and a great staff. Aside from that, I agree with Conte’s viewpoint, because you don’t win games or trophies with possession statistics,” added Marotta.

“As Helenio Herrera said, possession of the ball does not mean possession of the sport, because that is only based on results, points and trophies.”
