Inter CEO Beppe Marotta opened up about the club’s unfinished business after their Scudetto success and where they can still improve moving forwards.

The Nerazzurri clinched their league title with a tense 2-1 win over Milan in a fiery Derby della Madonnina on Monday evening, capping off an incredible 2023-24 campaign under Simone Inzaghi. The victory earns the club their second star, a historic achievement that isn’t shared by their rivals.

The one area where Inter did disappoint this season was the Champions League, where they suffered elimination to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16. As such, a stronger response is expected in Europe next term.

Marotta on next Inter steps

Speaking to Sport Mediaset via TMW, Marotta first discussed Inter’s winning cycle and their second Scudetto star.

“Ours is a model that has proven to be successful. It is made up of important values such as a sense of belonging and work culture. I also have very good collaborators like Ausilio and Baccin and we have brought important players available to a coach who has given them the right mentality.

“In sport, cycles end sooner or later, but in my opinion this one of ours is halfway there. There is still a lot to do.

“The regret is that we exited the Champions League like this, while we deserved the league, it was a fruit of the work culture and the sense of belonging of the hard core of the Italian players we have.”

He was asked if he plans to continue, considering his contract expires in 2027.

“I’m available to Inter for as long as Inter want me. In 2027 I will be 70 years old, perhaps it will be right to pass the baton. But I feel young, I feel adrenaline filled, I still want to give the Inter fans something important.”

Marotta spoke about where Inter can improve.

“There are always improvements, also within the players themselves. There are players who have found little space and who in my opinion will find more and more over time. We must pursue the value of sustainability, with an eye on the sporting and financial aspects.

“However, this affects all the big clubs in Italy, our strength is to have courage. This year we have changed 12 by finding the right replacements, so let’s continue like this.”

He was asked if this was his best season in football.

“I’m not saying the most difficult one, because we were ahead for a long time. But it’s nice for the extraordinary achievement of the second star which coincided. There was a lot of pressure to manage, and we did it, also thanks to the players’ response. We want to enjoy it.”

Finally, Marotta was asked if he was the difference maker at Inter.

“No, football is characterized by precise rules. Just respect them, then the results come.”

  1. First of all, Zhang must sell Inter. We can’t build a competitive squad for CL with such limited budget. Very sure that man has hidden agenda for holding onto Inter.
